USB ports (all of them) and HDMI ports do not have a video processor. If the laptop has a displayport, then a second external monitor can be attached to the laptop because the displayport has it's own video processor (known as a RAMDAC) to send out a video signal. That is because the integrated graphics core / dedicated graphics chip can only send two video signals one to the laptop's screen and one to an external monitor. After the reboot and it loads back into the desktop screen, press the Windows key + P at the same time and select between Extended or Duplicate display again and see if it will work or not. Reboot your laptop once the latest driver has been installed. Once done, download and install the latest driver. Next is to check Programs and Features then uninstall anything related to Intel graphics. Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Intel graphics driver.
